Hyderabad Doctor Dies by Suicide After Repeated US Visa Rejections

38-year-old Hyderabad physician ends life after US dream destroyed.

Rohini, a 38-year-old highly accomplished physician originally from Guntur district in Andhra Pradesh, was discovered dead in her rented apartment in Hyderabad’s Padma Rao Nagar locality on Saturday afternoon, having apparently taken her own life after successive United States visa rejections plunged her into insurmountable depression, authorities confirmed on Sunday.

Living alone in the city to remain close to major libraries and study centres while preparing intensively for United States Medical Licensing Examination steps and residency interviews, Rohini had structured her entire existence around achieving specialist training in internal medicine abroad, a pursuit she considered essential for professional fulfilment and financial security after graduating with excellence from a medical university in Kyrgyzstan between 2005 and 2010.

The tragedy came to light when her domestic help, unable to gain entry on Saturday morning, alerted family members living elsewhere in Hyderabad; they forced open the locked door and found Rohini’s body alongside a handwritten suicide note that unambiguously blamed crushing depression caused by repeated visa denials, with preliminary evidence pointing to a fatal overdose of sedative medication or self-administered injection on Friday night.

According to her distraught mother Lakshmi, Rohini had steadfastly refused all suggestions to establish a medical practice in India despite a promising domestic career path, repeatedly emphasising that the American system offered controlled patient volumes, superior infrastructure, and dramatically higher earnings; the mounting frustration and isolation from consecutive visa refusals gradually overwhelmed her mental health until she saw no way forward.

Chilkalguda Police have registered a case under relevant sections, seized medication vials and injection paraphernalia from the scene, sent the body for comprehensive post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death, and initiated a thorough investigation into the circumstances that led a brilliant, unmarried doctor wholly dedicated to her profession to end her life over insurmountable administrative barriers to her long-cherished American dream.
