HM Amit Shah marked Raksha Bandhan with girls in Gandhinagar.
Union Home Minister and Gandhinagar Lok Sabha MP Amit Shah celebrated Raksha Bandhan on Friday with girls living with Type 1 diabetes in Gandhinagar. The girls met Shah as part of an initiative in his parliamentary constituency focused on providing free insulin to children diagnosed with Type 1 juvenile diabetes.
The girls tied rakhis to Shah during the Raksha Bandhan programme, after which he extended his wishes for their health and bright future. The initiative is aimed at supporting children aged up to 18 years who require insulin as part of their long-term treatment and ensuring that financial difficulties do not prevent eligible families from accessing the essential medicine.
According to party sources, the cost of lifelong treatment can create a significant financial burden for economically weaker families. The Gandhinagar initiative has therefore established an integrated system covering screening, diagnosis, insulin provision, treatment, monitoring and follow-up for children between zero and 18 years.

Shah described the initiative as an important step towards ensuring that children from poor and middle-class families do not remain without insulin because of treatment costs. He also linked the programme with the government's broader focus on public service and healthcare accessibility, while noting that the initiative was being implemented under his supervision in Gandhinagar.
The programme follows guidelines issued on April 30 for managing Diabetes Mellitus in children under the Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) 2.0. The system in Gandhinagar is intended to provide eligible children with free insulin for life, while also supporting their diagnosis, treatment and continued monitoring.
During the Raksha Bandhan event, Shah described the initiative as a reflection of the government's approach towards healthcare and welfare. He also referred to the Centre's health-sector efforts under Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the role of the Gujarat government, led by Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, in taking welfare-oriented schemes to people.
