The Himachal Pradesh government has announced a major recruitment drive to fill 3,468 teaching vacancies in CBSE-affiliated government schools across the state. Education Minister Rohit Thakur announced the recruitment during a review meeting of the Education Department, where officials also discussed ongoing reforms aimed at improving teaching standards, school infrastructure and student learning outcomes.

The recruitment drive includes 2,668 regular teaching posts across 19 different categories. The vacancies have already been forwarded to the Himachal Pradesh Rajya Chayan Aayog in Hamirpur for further recruitment procedures. The appointments are expected to address staff shortages in several subjects and support the growing network of government schools operating under the CBSE curriculum.

The state will also recruit 800 temporary teachers, including 400 English teachers and 400 Mathematics teachers, to strengthen classroom instruction in CBSE-affiliated schools. According to the Education Department, 292 English teachers and 284 Mathematics teachers have already joined their respective schools, while the remaining appointments are expected to be completed as the recruitment process progresses.

Recruitment for several other subjects is also expected to be completed in the coming months. These include Sanskrit, Physical Education, Music, Drawing, Science, Commerce, Economics, Political Science, History, Hindi, Geography, Sociology, Psychology, Computer Science, Fine Arts and Public Administration. The government expects the appointments to improve teacher availability and provide stronger academic support to students.

Himachal Pradesh has been expanding the number of government schools following the CBSE curriculum as part of efforts to improve the quality of public education. Approval has so far been granted to 158 government schools, of which 146 have already received CBSE affiliation. The recruitment of additional qualified teachers is expected to strengthen teaching standards and improve learning outcomes in these institutions.

The government is also expanding digital learning infrastructure across the state, with all government schools now connected through Information and Communication Technology facilities. Approval has been granted to replace computers in 524 schools, while BSNL has finalised a networking project covering 777 schools. Officials also reviewed the Dr YS Parmar Vidyarthi Rin Yojana and directed that remaining eligible students receive benefits through the Direct Benefit Transfer system without delay.
