Himachal CM Sukhu Comments On Alleged Ayodhya Temple Donation Misappropriation Case

Sukhu responds to alleged misuse of Ayodhya temple donations.

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has described alleged irregularities related to donations made for the Ayodhya Ram Temple as a “theft of faith” rather than merely a financial issue. His remarks came after he, along with Himachal Congress president Vinay Kumar and state ministers, offered prayers at the Ram Temple and Hanuman Temple in Shimla on Tuesday.

Speaking after the prayers, Sukhu accused the BJP of using Lord Ram’s name for political purposes and said any wrongdoing involving donations made by devotees would hurt the sentiments of millions of people. He said many devotees, including himself, had contributed towards the construction of the Ram Temple and that those responsible for alleged irregularities should reflect on their actions.

Sukhu said the issue was emotionally significant for devotees and that Congress would raise its voice against any alleged misuse of religious sentiments. He stated that a true devotee of Lord Ram would not use the deity’s name for political advantage. He also urged those involved in the alleged controversy to follow the right path.

The BJP responded strongly to Sukhu’s comments, with Himachal Pradesh BJP president Dr Rajeev Bindal accusing Congress of having a history of opposing the Ram Janmabhoomi movement. Bindal alleged that Congress had earlier challenged the issue through legal and political means and said the party’s recent visits to Ram temples were driven by political considerations.

Bindal said Lord Ram represents faith and devotion for millions of Indians and claimed that Congress could not change its past position on the Ram Janmabhoomi issue. He also criticised Sukhu’s confidence about returning to power in the 2027 Himachal Pradesh Assembly elections, pointing to Congress’ performance in recent Panchayati Raj and urban local body elections.

The political exchange comes ahead of the 2027 state Assembly elections, with both parties using religious, governance, and public welfare issues to strengthen their positions. While Sukhu highlighted concerns over alleged donation-related irregularities, the BJP focused its criticism on Congress’ past stance on the Ram Temple issue and alleged shortcomings of the state government’s policies.
