Haryana CM Saini Cycles To Sukhna Lake To Promote Fuel Conservation

Haryana CM Saini cycled to Sukhna Lake, promoting fuel conservation and sustainable transport practices among citizens.

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Tuesday cycled to Sukhna Lake in Chandigarh as part of a public awareness initiative promoting fuel conservation and environmental protection. The gesture was made in response to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal to reduce fuel consumption amid global energy concerns and encourage sustainable lifestyle choices.

After reaching the lake on a bicycle, the Chief Minister went for a morning walk and interacted with local residents and fitness enthusiasts. According to a government spokesperson, Saini used the occasion to promote the message of a “Healthy India, Healthy Haryana,” urging citizens to adopt healthier routines alongside environmentally responsible habits. He also encouraged public participation in national efforts aimed at resource conservation and sustainable development.

The Chief Minister appealed to opposition parties and public representatives to support the broader vision of a “Developed India,” stressing that collective efforts are essential to achieving long-term environmental and economic goals. He reiterated that energy conservation is a shared responsibility and called on citizens to contribute through small but consistent daily actions that reduce fuel consumption.

Saini also highlighted a series of administrative measures introduced by the Haryana government to reduce fossil fuel usage. These include standard operating procedures aimed at limiting unnecessary vehicle movement within government departments, promoting virtual meetings, and encouraging work-from-home arrangements where feasible. Officials said these steps are intended to align administrative practices with broader sustainability goals.

In addition, the Chief Minister has reportedly reduced the size of his official convoy by half, retaining only essential security vehicles, and has committed to working one day a week without using any government vehicle. He has also directed ministers and senior officers to minimise vehicle usage and set an example for the public by adopting eco-friendly practices.

The initiative is part of a wider campaign by the Haryana government to promote fuel efficiency, environmental awareness and responsible resource use. Officials said such symbolic and policy-level steps are aimed at encouraging citizens to adopt public transport and contribute to long-term environmental protection efforts across the state.
