Haryana CM Saini Claims Drug Abuse Rising In Punjab Under AAP

Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Sunday claimed that drug abuse has increased in Punjab under the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, while asserting that Haryana has made significant progress in tackling substance abuse through sustained awareness campaigns and youth engagement initiatives. He made the remarks while addressing a programme in Kotkapura, Faridkot district, during the nationwide launch of the Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan, a 100-week anti-drug campaign inaugurated virtually by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Addressing the gathering, Saini said the Haryana government has been working with determination to steer young people away from drug addiction through various public outreach programmes. He highlighted initiatives such as Raahgiri events, cyclothons and marathons, stating that these activities have encouraged youth participation in healthy lifestyles and contributed to the state's efforts to combat substance abuse. He said the government's focus has been on prevention, awareness and community involvement.

The Haryana Chief Minister contrasted the situation in his state with that of neighbouring Punjab, alleging that drug abuse has continued to grow there over the years. He claimed that despite the seriousness of the issue, the Punjab government has not achieved the desired progress in controlling the menace. His remarks come amid continued political exchanges between the BJP and the AAP over governance and law-and-order issues in Punjab.

Saini emphasised that the fight against drugs requires collective efforts from governments, educational institutions, families and society as a whole. He said creating awareness among young people and providing them with positive opportunities through sports, fitness and social activities are essential to reducing drug dependency. He also called upon citizens to actively support campaigns aimed at building a drug-free society.

The Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan is a nationwide initiative intended to spread awareness about the harmful effects of drug abuse and encourage youth participation in the country's development. The campaign seeks to involve educational institutions, community organisations and government agencies in promoting preventive measures and rehabilitation efforts across India over a period of 100 weeks.

Saini reiterated that eliminating drug abuse is vital for safeguarding the country's youth and ensuring long-term social and economic progress. He urged young people to stay away from narcotics and contribute positively to nation-building while reaffirming Haryana's commitment to continuing its anti-drug initiatives. The programme in Kotkapura was attended by public representatives, officials and local residents who participated in the launch of the nationwide campaign.
