Gujarat's Wildly Modified Hyundai Grand i10 Has More Headroom Than Most Indian Apartments

A Gujarat-modified Grand i10 with raised roof shocks and amuses internet users.

A uniquely modified Hyundai Grand i10 has gone viral on social media after a video showcased its unusual tallboy design, drawing widespread attention and humorous reactions online. The clip, widely circulated on Instagram, reveals a heavily customised version of the popular hatchback featuring a significantly raised roofline, giving the compact car an unexpectedly tall and spacious appearance. Internet users were quick to nickname the vehicle a “1 BHK flat on wheels,” highlighting its unusually roomy look compared to a standard hatchback.

The most striking change in the modified vehicle is its elevated roof structure, which dramatically alters the car’s proportions. The added height gives the hatchback a distinctive stance, making it resemble a miniature van or an elongated golf cart. Despite the unconventional modification, the design manages to blend reasonably well with the original rounded silhouette of the Grand i10, retaining its urban-friendly footprint while visually expanding its vertical space. This transformation has made the car stand out not only for its creativity but also for its practicality-focused redesign.

Inside the cabin, the changes appear to be even more significant. The raised roof allows for increased headroom, which can greatly enhance passenger comfort, especially for taller occupants seated in the rear. The video hints at a more premium and spacious interior layout, with a focus on comfort and usability. By maximizing vertical space, the modified hatchback seems to offer a more relaxed seating experience, potentially rivaling larger vehicles in terms of cabin feel. This emphasis on interior comfort is likely one of the reasons the modification has captured the imagination of viewers online.

Known for its efficient packaging, smooth performance, and practicality in city conditions, the model has long been a favorite among urban drivers. The current iteration, the Hyundai Grand i10 NIOS, comes equipped with a 1.2-litre petrol engine producing 83hp, paired with either a 5-speed manual or AMT gearbox, along with an optional factory-fitted CNG kit. With prices starting at around ₹5.47 lakh (ex-showroom), the model is positioned as an affordable yet comfortable hatchback, and this creative modification demonstrates how its strengths can be reimagined in unexpected ways.
