Gujarat CM Bhupendra Patel Launches Online Platform For High-Transaction Government Services
Gujarat launches ‘Sugam Digital Gujarat’ to digitise 20 key services, making them faceless, cashless, and paperless.
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel on Tuesday launched the ‘Sugam Digital Gujarat’ initiative, aimed at digitising high-volume public services to make the state’s administrative machinery more citizen-centric. The launch took place in Gandhinagar in the presence of senior state officials and marks a key step toward modernising government operations.
The programme seeks to transition 20 high-transaction services from five major departments online, including income certificates, caste certificates, ration cards, and affidavits. These services will now be faceless, cashless, and paperless, reducing the need for citizens to visit government offices repeatedly. The initiative follows recommendations from the fifth report of the Gujarat Administrative Reforms Commission (GARC).
CM Patel emphasised that the primary objective of the reforms is to make government services more accessible and convenient. “The easier it is for people to get things done, the more satisfaction the system and the government will have,” he said. He also highlighted the importance of local officials, such as Talatis and Village Computer Entrepreneurs, in helping citizens access these digital services effectively.

The Chief Minister underscored the role of collaboration between citizens, elected representatives, and government officials in achieving efficient outcomes. He noted that the adoption of digital payments has already demonstrated how technology can transform daily transactions, extending the reach and efficiency of government programmes.
The initiative also includes a digital locker system, allowing citizens to submit documents once for multiple services, and authentication through barcodes and Aadhaar. The platform is designed to accommodate up to one million simultaneous users, and services can be accessed via mobile phones or WhatsApp.
Officials highlighted that Sugam Digital Gujarat will streamline the delivery of essential services such as ration distribution, student scholarships, and widow pensions, making them faster, more transparent, and largely digital. Science and Technology Minister Arjun Modhwadia described the digitisation effort as “a gift of present-day India, present-day Gujarat and present-day leadership,” reflecting the state’s commitment to leveraging technology for citizen welfare.
