Guardrail Pierces Car as Doctor Couple Critically Injured on Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway
Doctor couple critically injured as guardrail pierces car near Palghar.
A doctor couple sustained serious injuries after their speeding car crashed into a highway guardrail on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway near Palghar in Maharashtra. The accident occurred on Sunday while the couple was travelling from Mumbai towards Gujarat. The impact was so severe that a section of the metal guardrail pierced through the vehicle, causing extensive damage and trapping both occupants inside the car.
According to police and eyewitnesses, the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle before it veered off the road and rammed into the highway safety barrier. The collision forced a 10 to 15-foot-long section of the iron guardrail to tear through the front of the car and protrude from the rear, leaving the vehicle severely mangled. The dramatic nature of the accident highlighted the force of the impact and the challenges faced during the rescue operation.
Soon after the crash, local residents and highway police personnel rushed to the scene and launched rescue efforts. The doctor couple remained trapped inside the wreckage, requiring rescuers to undertake a difficult operation to safely extricate them from the heavily damaged vehicle. Emergency responders worked to remove the victims before shifting them for urgent medical treatment.

Both injured occupants were initially taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Medical officials later reported that the condition of the woman doctor was critical, prompting her transfer to a private hospital in Mumbai for specialised care. The condition of the male doctor has not been officially detailed, though he was also reported to have suffered serious injuries in the accident.
Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash. Investigators are examining whether factors such as excessive speed, driver error, road conditions or any mechanical failure contributed to the accident. Authorities are also expected to inspect the damaged vehicle and gather statements from witnesses as part of the inquiry.
The accident has once again drawn attention to road safety on India's national highways, where high-speed collisions continue to result in serious injuries and fatalities. Officials have urged motorists to exercise caution, adhere to speed limits and remain vigilant while driving, particularly on highways, as investigations into the Palghar accident continue.
