Biker Survives Terrifying Crash Near Steep Valley in West Bengal

A biker narrowly escaped a potentially fatal accident after losing control of his motorcycle on a rain-soaked hill road near Kurseong View Point in West Bengal. A video of the incident, which has gone viral on social media, shows the rider skidding on the wet surface before crashing into a roadside rock and narrowly avoiding a plunge into the steep valley alongside the road. The incident has renewed discussions on the importance of road safety during the monsoon season.

According to the viral footage, the rider, dressed in a sky-blue raincoat, was travelling at a relatively high speed on the slippery mountain road when he appeared to lose control of the motorcycle while approaching a bend. The bike crashed into a roadside rock, throwing the rider against a milestone before he landed back on the road. The force of the impact sent his shoes flying, while the motorcycle toppled off the roadside.

Despite the severity of the crash, the rider reportedly survived with injuries and avoided falling into the deep valley beside the road. The incident illustrates the heightened risks of riding on wet hill roads, where reduced tyre grip, sharp curves and steep drops can quickly turn a minor mistake into a life-threatening accident. Authorities have not released any official statement regarding the incident or the rider's condition.

The video, shared on Instagram by digital creator Bappi Barman from Jaigaon, has attracted widespread attention online, receiving around five lakh views and nearly 10,000 comments. Social media users reacted with a mixture of concern, humour and criticism, with many urging motorcyclists to ride more cautiously during the rainy season and avoid excessive speed on mountainous routes.

Several users blamed the rider for the crash, suggesting that he was not fully focused on the road ahead while approaching the curve. Others emphasised the importance of wearing proper riding gear, including protective boots and helmets, and maintaining correct riding posture and visual focus when navigating bends, especially on slippery roads.

The viral incident serves as a reminder of the dangers associated with monsoon travel on hilly terrain. Road safety experts advise riders to reduce speed, maintain safe braking distances, avoid sudden manoeuvres and ensure their motorcycles are equipped with tyres that provide adequate grip in wet conditions. Such precautions can significantly reduce the risk of accidents and help prevent serious injuries during the rainy season.
