'GST Bachat Utsav’: PM Modi Promises More Tax Relief, Stronger Economy
PM Modi unveils bold GST reforms, slashing taxes.
In a landmark address at the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show 2025 in Greater Noida on September 25, 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that ongoing reforms in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) system will continue to reduce the tax burden on citizens as India’s economy grows stronger. Speaking to a gathering of entrepreneurs, traders, and innovators, Modi emphasized that these reforms are pivotal to India’s ambition to become a developed nation by 2047, with a focus on self-reliance under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.
Modi highlighted the transformative impact of GST, first introduced in 2017, and further refined with next-generation reforms in September 2025. “We are celebrating ‘GST Bachat Utsav’ today,” he declared, noting that the reforms, combined with income tax exemptions up to Rs 12 lakh, are projected to save citizens a staggering Rs 2.5 lakh crore this year. These measures, he said, have significantly reduced inflation, boosted disposable income, and increased savings for the poor, new middle class, and middle class.
The Prime Minister accused opposition parties, particularly the Congress, of misleading the public to conceal their governance failures before 2014. “During the Congress regime, there was a ‘Tax Loot’ that crushed ordinary citizens with excessive taxation,” Modi said. He contrasted this with his government’s efforts to streamline taxes and enhance the Ease of Doing Business by eliminating over 40,000 compliances and decriminalizing hundreds of minor business-related regulations.

Modi underscored India’s unwavering commitment to self-reliance, stating, “In a changing world, dependence on others compromises growth. Every product that can be made in India must be made in India.” He urged entrepreneurs to design business models that prioritize domestic manufacturing, aligning with the ‘Make in India’ campaign. From semiconductors to ships, Modi envisioned a future where India produces everything domestically, reducing reliance on imports.
The Prime Minister also praised Uttar Pradesh’s remarkable progress, positioning it as a hub of investment and innovation. With the highest number of expressways and international airports in the country, Uttar Pradesh accounts for 55% of India’s mobile phone manufacturing. Modi announced that a major semiconductor facility will soon bolster the state’s role in India’s tech self-reliance. Additionally, a defence corridor in Uttar Pradesh is already producing BrahMos missiles, and a factory for AK-203 rifles, developed in collaboration with Russia, is set to commence operations.
Modi highlighted the growing national pride in ‘swadeshi’ products, with Indians increasingly favoring locally made goods. “The sentiment of proudly saying ‘this is swadeshi’ is sweeping the nation,” he said, encouraging traders to champion Indian-made products. He also emphasized the government’s efforts to strengthen the defence sector, with indigenous solutions reducing external dependence and creating a vibrant ecosystem for ‘Made in India’ weaponry.
The Prime Minister reiterated India’s resilience amid global uncertainties, stating, “Disruptions do not divert India; they reveal new directions.” With strong political stability, democratic willpower, and predictable policies, India is laying a robust foundation for decades of growth. Modi’s vision of a self-reliant, prosperous India resonated strongly with the audience, who applauded his call for continued reforms and innovation.
As the nation celebrates the ‘GST Bachat Utsav,’ Modi’s assurance of further tax relief and economic strengthening signals a bright future for India’s citizens and businesses. The government’s focus on reducing compliance burdens, fostering domestic manufacturing, and promoting swadeshi pride is set to propel India toward its goal of becoming a global economic powerhouse.
