Greyhounds Kill Seven Maoists in Maredumilli, Day After Hidma’s Elimination
Seven more Maoists killed day after top commander Hidma eliminated.
Security forces delivered another crushing blow to CPI (Maoist) on Wednesday when Greyhounds commandos eliminated seven armed cadres, including three women, in a fierce gunbattle deep inside the forests of Maredumilli in Alluri Sitaramaraju district, barely 24 hours after neutralising PLGA Battalion-1 commander Madvi Hidma and five others in the same region.
Andhra Pradesh Intelligence ADG Mahesh Chandra Laddha confirmed at a press conference that the latest encounter was a direct continuation of Tuesday’s operation, with seven bodies recovered so far from the encounter site along with eight weapons, including two AK-47 rifles, underscoring the intensity of the firefight in the rugged terrain along the Andhra–Odisha border.
Among the deceased was senior Central Committee member Meturi Jog Rao alias Shankar, a native of Srikakulam district who served as a key figure in the Andhra–Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee and was regarded as the organisation’s technical mastermind responsible for arms manufacturing, improvised explosive devices, and secure communication networks.

Preliminary identification also confirmed the death of Divisional Committee Member Sita alias Jyothi and five Area Committee Members of the AOBSZC, dealing a severe setback to the Maoist command structure that has been attempting to regroup in the tri-junction area of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Chhattisgarh after years of sustained pressure from security forces.
Elite Greyhounds units are continuing large-scale combing operations across the dense forest belt, with authorities indicating that the twin encounters within 48 hours have significantly degraded the operational capability of the Maoist formation in the eastern ghats and may mark a turning point in the long-running anti-Naxal campaign in the region.
