#JustIn: Security Forces Kill Maoist in Sukma Firefight, Marking 263rd Naxal Fatality This Year

One more rebel falls in Sukma; security forces tighten noose on Red Corridor.

Security forces added another name to Chhattisgarh’s unprecedented 2025 anti-Naxal tally on Tuesday morning when a Maoist cadre was killed in a prolonged firefight on a thickly forested hill under Errabor police station limits in the insurgency-hot Sukma district, one of the last remaining strongholds of Left Wing Extremism in Central India.

The encounter began around dawn when a composite team of the District Reserve Guard (DRG), Special Task Force (STF), and Bastar Fighters, operating on specific human and technical intelligence about the presence of senior PLGA (People’s Liberation Guerrilla Army) members, launched a cordon-and-search operation deep inside the impenetrable Abujhmad forest range, triggering a heavy exchange of automatic fire that echoed across the valleys for several hours.

Troops have so far recovered the body of one uniformed Naxalite, a 12-bore firearm, detonators, Maoist pamphlets, and daily-use items from the encounter site, while additional blood trails and drag marks suggest possible further casualties among the fleeing Maoists; combing operations backed by drones and helicopter reconnaissance are continuing to neutralise any remaining threats.

The latest neutralisation comes barely 48 hours after three Naxalites, including a divisional committee member carrying a ₹8-lakh reward, were killed in two separate operations in Bhejji and Chintagufa areas of Sukma on Sunday, underlining the relentless pressure security forces have maintained throughout the year across the Bastar region.

With Tuesday’s kill, Chhattisgarh has now recorded 263 Naxalite fatalities in 2025 — a record-breaking figure that includes 234 eliminations in the seven districts of Bastar division, 27 in Gariaband under Raipur division, and two in Mohla-Manpur-Ambagarh Chowki district — signalling the near-collapse of Maoist organisational structure and the rapid shrinking of their once-formidable guerrilla zones in the state.
