Government Enlists Indian Air Force for Secure NEET Paper Transport in Major Security Overhaul
The government explores Indian Air Force logistics support for secure NEET-UG examination materials transportation.
The Central Government is considering involving the Indian Air Force (IAF) in the logistics and secure transportation of NEET-UG examination materials as part of efforts to strengthen the integrity and security of one of India’s largest entrance examinations. The proposal was discussed during a high-level meeting held at Defense Minister Rajnath Singh’s residence on Thursday amid continued concerns over examination security and paper leak risks.
The meeting was attended by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, National Testing Agency (NTA) Director General Abhishek Singh, senior defense officials, and representatives from the Department of Posts. Sources familiar with the discussions said multiple measures aimed at improving the safety and monitoring of examination logistics were reviewed during the meeting, including the possibility of using military logistical support for transporting sensitive examination materials.
According to sources, the NTA is currently working on a “compressed timeline” to conduct the upcoming NEET-UG retest, which has increased pressure on authorities to ensure smooth coordination and secure handling of examination papers. Officials reportedly described the situation as requiring a “whole of government approach,” involving coordination between several ministries and agencies to prevent procedural lapses and strengthen public confidence in the examination system.

The proposal to involve the Indian Air Force is understood to be primarily focused on ensuring the secure and rapid transportation of question papers and related examination materials across the country. Authorities are exploring whether military-grade logistics could reduce risks associated with leaks, tampering, delays, or unauthorized access during transit. However, it remains unclear whether similar arrangements may later be extended to other national-level examinations conducted by the government.
The discussions come in the backdrop of heightened scrutiny surrounding NEET-UG after previous allegations of paper leaks and irregularities triggered widespread concern among students, parents, and educational institutions. The government has since been under pressure to implement stricter security measures and restore trust in the examination process. Officials believe enhanced coordination with defense and communication agencies could help strengthen operational security during future examinations.
While no official announcement has yet been made regarding the final role of the Indian Air Force, sources indicated that discussions are continuing between the concerned ministries and agencies. The government is expected to take a decision soon as preparations intensify for the upcoming examination cycle. Authorities have emphasized that maintaining the credibility, fairness, and security of national entrance examinations remains a top priority amid growing demands for stricter oversight and faster response mechanisms.
