Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant launched the state’s first privately owned solar-electric passenger cruise boat, M.V. LRAJ GREEN, on the Mandovi River at Panaji’s Floating Jetty on Thursday. Joined by Union Minister of State for Power and Renewable Energy Shripad Naik, Sawant hailed the vessel, developed by Goa Solar Power House and LRAJ Green Solutions Pvt. Ltd., as a game-changer for sustainable tourism.
“This eco-friendly initiative will boost Goa’s tourism sector while reducing carbon emissions,” Sawant said, emphasizing the Modi government’s push for green energy to cut reliance on fossil fuels. A spokesperson from LRAJ Green Solutions noted that this is Goa’s first fully operational solar-electric boat, with similar technology already successful in Kerala, Punjab, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Odisha, and Uttar Pradesh.
