Goa CM Hails GST 2.0 as Boost for Swadeshi Products

New GST reforms boost Goa’s entrepreneurs, growth.

Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant enthusiastically endorsed the rollout of the transformative GST 2.0 reforms, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as a pivotal step toward an Atmanirbhar Bharat 2.0. In a post on X, Sawant highlighted the reforms’ potential to empower micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), aligning with Modi’s call to strengthen India’s economic backbone through modernized infrastructure and enhanced manufacturing competitiveness. The initiative, dubbed the “GST Bachat Utsav,” promises to elevate Swadeshi products on both national and global stages, reinforcing Goa’s commitment to the “Vocal for Local, Think Global” vision.

Sawant, a key member of the GST Council, emphasized that the revised GST rates, effective from September 22, mark a significant milestone in India’s journey toward self-reliance. Speaking on the eve of Navratri, Modi described the reforms as a catalyst for accelerating India’s growth story, likening the boost to Swadeshi products to the spirit that fueled India’s freedom movement. The simplified tax structure is designed to make essentials more affordable while fostering an ecosystem that attracts investment and empowers entrepreneurs, particularly in states like Goa, known for its vibrant small-business sector.

The chief minister outlined Goa’s proactive approach to leveraging these reforms, focusing on streamlining processes and modernizing infrastructure to support MSMEs. “Goa is fully committed to empowering our entrepreneurs so that Swadeshi products shine proudly,” Sawant stated, underscoring the state’s role in advancing India’s shift from “Make in India” to “Make for the World.” He credited consistent reforms like GST, the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan, and Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes for driving this transformation.

Under the guiding principle of “Nagarik Devo Bhava,” the GST 2.0 reforms aim to pave the way for a Viksit Bharat by prioritizing citizen-centric growth and economic self-sufficiency. For Goa, this means a renewed focus on creating opportunities for local businesses to thrive globally, ensuring that the state remains a key player in India’s ambitious economic roadmap. As the reforms take effect, Sawant’s vision signals a promising future for Goa’s entrepreneurs and the broader goal of a prosperous, self-reliant India.
