PM Modi Leads Grand Roadshow In Bhavnagar, Gujarat

Modi greets crowds during a Bhavnagar roadshow celebrating Operation Sindoor and GST reforms.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged with enthusiastic crowds during a one-kilometre roadshow in Bhavnagar, his home state of Gujarat, on Saturday, marking a key outreach event ahead of upcoming assembly elections. The procession, starting from the airport and culminating at Gandhi Maidan—the site of his scheduled public address—drew thousands of supporters, underscoring Modi's enduring popularity in the Saurashtra region, where he began his political journey as a pracharak for the RSS.

Waving from his open vehicle, Modi greeted well-wishers who lined the streets, showering him with flower petals and garlands in a display of fervent affection. Local dance troupes performed traditional Garba and folk routines on makeshift stages along the route, blending cultural vibrancy with political fervour. The atmosphere, alive with chants of "Modi! Modi!" and Gujarati patriotic songs, reflected the BJP's strong grassroots mobilisation in coastal Bhavnagar, a constituency with significant maritime and industrial ties that has backed the party in recent polls.

Prominently displayed were victory banners celebrating Operation Sindoor, India's bold May 2024 military strikes against terror camps in Pakistan following the Pahalgam attack, which neutralised key infrastructure and boosted national security narratives. Adjacent posters lauded Modi's role in GST reforms, implemented in 2017 to unify India's fragmented tax system, now credited with streamlining business and boosting revenue to over Rs 2 lakh crore monthly. These visuals reinforced the government's achievements in defence and economic policy, resonating with voters amid Gujarat's robust 8% GDP growth.

The roadshow, part of Modi's whirlwind Saurashtra tour, sets the stage for his Gandhi Maidan speech, expected to address local issues like fisheries development and urban infrastructure. With Gujarat's assembly polls looming in late 2025, such events energise the BJP's campaign, building on its 2017 landslide, where Modi personally campaigned in over 100 rallies. As the convoy reached the venue, the turnout—estimated at 50,000—signalled strong momentum, positioning Bhavnagar as a BJP stronghold while highlighting the prime minister's personal connection with his native soil.
