Four Covid-19 Deaths, 12 Cases Reported Across Andhra Pradesh In Less Than One Month
Andhra Pradesh Records Fresh Covid Cases And Deaths
Andhra Pradesh has reported 12 Covid-19 cases and four related deaths between June 26 and July 16, according to the state's Health Department. Health Commissioner G. Veerapandian said on Thursday that all four deceased patients had severe underlying medical conditions, including hypertension, diabetes, kidney disease and other comorbidities, which contributed to their deaths. The department described the infections as sporadic and said there was no evidence of a cluster outbreak anywhere in the state.
In an official press release, Veerapandian said Andhra Pradesh recorded its first Covid-19 case of 2026 in Kadapa district on June 26. Between July 1 and July 16, 11 additional infections were detected, taking the total number of reported cases during the period to 12. Of the four fatalities, three occurred in Kadapa district, while one was reported from Kakinada. The commissioner stressed that all of the deceased patients had significant pre-existing health conditions that increased their vulnerability to severe illness.
District-wise, Kadapa accounted for the highest number of infections with eight cases, followed by Guntur with two. Visakhapatnam and Kakinada reported one case each. Veerapandian noted that the cases originated from different mandals across the state rather than from a single locality, indicating isolated infections instead of a concentrated outbreak. The Health Department also said that two of the infected individuals had contracted the virus after coming into close contact with Covid-positive patients.

The commissioner said 67 Covid-19 tests were conducted across Andhra Pradesh between June 26 and July 15, with 11 returning positive. The 12th case involved a patient diagnosed at the Christian Medical College (CMC) in Vellore, Tamil Nadu. Health officials are continuing surveillance and contact tracing to monitor the spread of the virus and identify any additional infections. Authorities have not reported any signs of widespread community transmission so far.
The latest figures come as several states continue to maintain surveillance for Covid-19 despite significantly lower case numbers compared to previous waves. Health authorities have urged elderly individuals and people with chronic illnesses to remain cautious, as they remain at greater risk of developing severe complications from the virus. Officials have also advised people experiencing respiratory symptoms to seek medical attention promptly and follow basic preventive measures where necessary.
The Andhra Pradesh Health Department said it will continue monitoring the Covid-19 situation and take appropriate public health measures if required. While the current number of infections remains limited, authorities have reiterated the importance of early detection, timely treatment and protecting vulnerable groups with underlying medical conditions. The department has assured the public that the reported cases are being closely tracked and that there is no indication of a large-scale outbreak in the state at present.
