An Air India Express flight headed for Delhi made an emergency landing in Lucknow on Tuesday after the crew received a smoke alert onboard. The Airbus A320, operating flight IX1523 from Bagdogra to Delhi, was carrying 142 passengers and six crew members at the time of the incident.
Officials reported that upon detecting the smoke alert, the flight crew promptly decided to divert to Lucknow, prioritizing passenger safety. “Prioritising safety, the crew operating one of our flights to Delhi elected to divert to Lucknow and carried out priority landing following a smoke alert. The aircraft landed safely,” an Air India Express spokesperson confirmed.
The flight touched down at Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport at approximately 5:18 pm. Airport authorities coordinated with the airline to ensure a smooth landing and rapid assistance to all passengers.

Following the emergency landing, passengers were provided refreshments and necessary support while arrangements were made for their onward journey. The airline confirmed that affected travelers were re-accommodated on alternative flights to Delhi later in the evening.
No injuries were reported, and the aircraft was inspected by technical teams to determine the cause of the smoke alert. Air India Express emphasized that safety protocols were strictly followed throughout the incident, reflecting the crew’s training and preparedness.
