Fire Department Cancels Niloufer Cafe Fire NOC After Hyderabad Inspection

Fire NOC cancelled after violations found at Hyderabad’s Niloufer Cafe.

Hyderabad’s iconic Niloufer Cafe in Banjara Hills has come under regulatory scrutiny after Telangana Fire Services officials cancelled its Fire No Objection Certificate (NOC) following a surprise inspection that revealed multiple safety violations. The action was taken after authorities identified serious lapses in fire safety compliance at the commercial building housing the popular cafe on Road No. 12.

According to officials, the inspection was carried out based on specific inputs received by the department and amid heightened vigilance following recent fire incidents in commercial establishments across the state. During the assessment, inspectors reportedly found significant irregularities, including the operation of a full-fledged restaurant above the fourth floor without the required permissions, which was considered a major breach of safety norms.

Taking note of the violations, Telangana Fire Services Director General Vikram Singh Mann ordered the cancellation of the Fire NOC granted to the establishment. Officials stated that the conditions under which the clearance had originally been issued were not being adhered to, and the lapses posed a potential risk to public safety. The department emphasized that the decision was taken in the interest of preventing any possible threat to human life and property.

Fire officials further reiterated that compliance with fire safety regulations is mandatory for all commercial establishments and cannot be compromised. The department warned that strict action will continue to be taken against any organisation found violating safety standards. Authorities also stated that public safety remains their highest priority and that enforcement measures will be strengthened to ensure adherence to norms.

Niloufer Cafe, founded in 1978, is one of Hyderabad’s most well-known Irani tea brands, popular for its signature Irani chai, Osmania biscuits, bun maska, and bakery offerings. The brand reportedly serves more than 20,000 customers daily across its outlets and has built a strong reputation among both locals and visitors over the decades. Its premium lounges and regular outlets have made it a widely recognised name in the city’s food culture.

The cafe chain is currently owned by entrepreneur A. Babu Rao, who began his career at the establishment in the 1970s before acquiring it in 1993 and expanding it into a citywide brand. With nine outlets across Hyderabad, including popular locations in the IT corridor, Niloufer Cafe remains a major attraction for tea lovers, even as it now faces regulatory action over safety compliance issues.
