Fatal Bus Crash in Karnataka: One Dead, 21 Injured
Private bus plunges into stream near Karwar
A tragic accident claimed one life and injured 21 others when a private bus en route to Mangaluru plunged into a stream near Agasur village, Uttara Kannada district, around 3 AM on Monday. The deceased, identified as Vinayak Shinde from Hubballi, died during the mishap, police confirmed.
The bus, carrying passengers from Belagavi via Ankola, overturned after striking a small bridge, reportedly due to rash driving. A senior police officer stated that the driver lost control while swerving to avoid potholes, causing the vehicle to crash and fall into the stream. Local residents and police swiftly rescued the passengers, with 18 sustaining minor injuries and three others seriously injured. All were rushed to a nearby hospital.
Using a crane, authorities retrieved the bus from the stream. An investigation is ongoing to determine the precise cause and assess road safety measures in the area.
