Ex-Servicemen Rally In Bhopal Seeking Justice For Twisha Sharma Dowry Death Case

Retired armed forces veterans demand swift justice and CBI probe in Twisha Sharma death case.

Retired armed forces personnel staged a bike rally in Bhopal on Wednesday demanding justice in the alleged dowry death case of Twisha Sharma, whose death shortly after her marriage has sparked widespread outrage and renewed calls for stricter action in cases involving domestic abuse and dowry harassment.

The rally was organised by a group of ex-servicemen who sought a fast-track investigation into the case and urged authorities to ensure swift legal action against those accused. The protesters said they planned to meet senior officials, including the Director General of Police, the Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh and the Governor, to press for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) inquiry into the incident.

Twisha Sharma was found hanging at her marital home in Bhopal on May 12, according to police. Her family has accused her husband, Samarth Singh, and her in-laws of mental and physical harassment linked to dowry demands, alleging that sustained abuse forced her to take the extreme step. A case was subsequently registered at Katara Hills police station.

The matter has gained further attention because Samarth Singh is the son of a district and sessions court judge in Bhopal. Reports indicate that he has remained absconding since the registration of the case, prompting criticism from the victim’s family, who questioned why no arrest had been made more than a week after the incident.

Twisha’s brother, Harshit Sharma, a serving officer in the Indian Armed Forces, recently spoke publicly about the family’s struggle for justice. He alleged that family members had been receiving threats and claimed that the accused’s influential background was affecting the progress of the investigation. His remarks have intensified public scrutiny of the case and generated support from veterans’ groups and civil society organisations.

Meanwhile, the accused family has denied the allegations. Twisha’s mother-in-law, identified as retired judge Giribala Singh, reportedly claimed that the death was a case of suicide and denied allegations of harassment. As investigations continue, the case has become a focal point in broader discussions surrounding dowry-related violence, accountability and the protection of women within marital homes.
