DTC’s E-Buses to Sport Vibrant Ads, Boosting Revenue for Delhi!
Delhi’s e-buses to display ads, boosting DTC revenue.
The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) is set to transform its fleet of 840 air-conditioned electric buses into mobile billboards with full-body wrap advertisements, a move announced on August 12, 2025, to generate additional revenue. After years of delays due to road safety concerns raised by the Traffic Police, the DTC has finalized a plan to select a concessionaire through a competitive bidding process, with tenders already floated. This initiative marks a significant step toward financial sustainability for the state-run transport corporation.
To ensure appropriateness, the DTC has established strict guidelines prohibiting indecent, obscene, or offensive advertisements, including those promoting nudity, drugs, alcohol, or divisive content. The selected concessionaire must comply with applicable laws, including the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s (MCD) Bye-Laws on advertisements, and avoid content banned by the Advertisement Council of India. The DTC also plans to expand advertising opportunities, with proposals under consideration to include the right side of buses for an additional fee, potentially increasing revenue further.
The tender document outlines that the number of buses available for wraps will grow as the DTC’s fleet expands, with the concessionaire holding the first right of refusal for new buses. This strategic move not only enhances the visual appeal of Delhi’s e-buses but also positions the DTC to capitalize on its extensive network across nine depots, ensuring a balance between commercial interests and public sentiment.
