Drug Screening At Bengaluru Colleges Flags 31 Positive Cases
31 students test positive during anti-drug screening at Bengaluru colleges.
At least 31 students from colleges in Bengaluru tested positive during a recent drug screening conducted as part of an anti-narcotics drive, raising fresh concerns about substance abuse among young people in educational institutions. The checks were carried out by the Bengaluru City Police in coordination with college authorities as part of efforts to curb the use of banned substances on campuses.
Officials said the screenings were conducted across multiple colleges following inputs about possible drug consumption among students. Samples collected during the checks were tested, and 31 individuals were found positive for the presence of narcotic substances. Authorities have not disclosed the specific drugs involved but indicated that further verification and investigation are underway.
Police officials stated that the operation was part of a broader campaign to prevent drug use among students and to raise awareness about the risks associated with narcotics. Educational institutions were informed in advance about the drive, and students were asked to cooperate with the screening process conducted by enforcement teams.

Following the test results, authorities said they are focusing primarily on counselling and rehabilitation for the students involved rather than immediate punitive action. Officials emphasised that the objective of the drive is to identify substance use early and provide support to those who may require help in overcoming addiction.
The anti-drug initiative is being carried out under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, which regulates the possession, consumption and distribution of narcotic substances in India. Police said they are also investigating possible supply chains to determine how drugs may have reached the students.
Officials added that awareness programmes will be conducted in colleges to educate students about the legal and health consequences of drug use. The police are also encouraging institutions and parents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity that could indicate the presence of narcotics.
Authorities said such drives are likely to continue in the coming months as part of a broader strategy to tackle drug abuse in the city. The initiative aims to strengthen preventive measures, support affected students through counselling and ensure that educational campuses remain safe environments for learning.
