DK Shivakumar Calls Delhi Police EOW Notice in National Herald Case ‘Very Shocking’

Karnataka DyCM calls fresh summons pure political harassment against Gandhis.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar on Saturday described the latest notice served by the Delhi Police’s Economic Offences Wing in the long-running National Herald case as “very shocking”, asserting that he had already furnished every required detail to the Enforcement Directorate years ago.

Speaking to reporters, Shivakumar questioned the necessity of a parallel police investigation when the ED had already concluded its probe and filed a chargesheet under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act. He maintained that there was no wrongdoing on his part, emphasising that the contributions in question were legitimate donations to an institution historically supported by Congress workers.

The senior Congress leader accused central agencies of orchestrating sustained harassment aimed primarily at targeting former party president Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and their supporters. He alleged that the renewed summons were designed to create confusion and prolong political vendetta despite the absence of any fresh evidence or legal justification.

The Delhi Police notice, dated 29 November 2025, requires Shivakumar to appear before the EOW by 19 December and submit exhaustive financial records, transactional details, and information about his association with the Congress party, including specific queries on the source of funds transferred to Young Indian Private Limited and knowledge of their end use.

The National Herald investigation, originally triggered by a private complaint lodged by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy in 2012, alleges financial irregularities in the transfer of assets of Associated Journals Limited to Young Indian, a company in which Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are shareholders, and continues to be a flashpoint in the ongoing political confrontation between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress.
