Delhi Police Summons Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Shivakumar in National Herald Case

Karnataka Deputy CM ordered to reveal hidden money trail to Sonia-Rahul company.

The Economic Offences Wing of Delhi Police has served a detailed notice to Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D K Shivakumar, making it clear that he is in possession of critical evidence in the revived National Herald investigation that directly involves CPP Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi. The notice, issued on November 29, warns that failure to comply could invite stricter action under the law.

Investigators have set a firm deadline of December 19 for Shivakumar to either present himself at the EOW office or submit exhaustive documentation covering every single financial transaction he or any entity linked to him ever made to Young Indian Private Limited, the controversial company at the heart of the case. The questionnaire runs into several pages and leaves no transaction unexamined.

The probing agency has demanded complete bank statements, source of every rupee transferred, copies of all communications with Young Indian directors or All India Congress Committee office-bearers, clarification on whose instructions the payments were made, full awareness of the eventual utilisation of the funds, income tax returns for relevant years, and any donation or tax-exemption certificates issued against those transfers.

At the core of the FIR registered on October 3 lies the allegation that Associated Journals Limited, publisher of the historic National Herald newspaper, was stripped of prime properties worth over Rs 988 crore and handed over to Young Indian for a nominal Rs 50 lakh in 2010 through a carefully crafted transaction in which Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi together hold 76 percent shares, triggering charges of criminal conspiracy, cheating, and breach of trust.

Sources in Shivakumar’s close circle have termed the summons the latest episode of relentless political persecution by the BJP-led central government, asserting that the Karnataka strongman is being deliberately singled out because he has steadfastly refused to buckle under pressure or switch loyalties, and that no amount of agency raids or notices will break his resolve to stand by the Congress leadership.
