Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis expresses grief over Goa nightclub fire that killed 25.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis expressed profound sorrow on Sunday over the tragic fire at a nightclub in Arpora, North Goa, that claimed 25 lives late Saturday night. Taking to social media platform X, Fadnavis extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured in the devastating incident.

The fire reportedly broke out late Saturday night at a popular Arpora nightclub. Preliminary investigations suggest that most victims died from suffocation after being trapped in the basement area, where smoke accumulated rapidly. Officials indicate that the fire originated on the first floor and quickly spread throughout the building, making evacuation extremely challenging for those inside.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi condoled the loss of lives and announced ex gratia compensation from the Prime Minister National Relief Fund. Families of the deceased will receive Rs 2 lakh each, while those injured will get Rs 50,000. The Prime Minister also assured full support from the Centre for relief and rehabilitation efforts, after speaking with Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.

Police reports indicate that most of the victims were staff members of the nightclub. Bodies were recovered primarily from the kitchen area on the ground floor, suggesting employees were trapped while attempting to escape, with two additional victims found on the staircase. Goa Director General of Police Alok Kumar confirmed the fire has been brought under control, with multiple police teams overseeing rescue and investigation operations.

The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation. Authorities continue to examine the premises and gather evidence, while ensuring the safety of survivors and providing support to affected families. Rescue teams remain on high alert for any additional casualties or hazards at the site.

Local authorities and emergency responders have urged the public to avoid the area as investigations and relief efforts continue. Meanwhile, the tragedy has drawn nationwide attention, highlighting concerns about fire safety compliance in commercial establishments, especially those hosting late-night events.
