Delhi to Propose Aligning Police Stations With 13 Revenue Districts

The Delhi government is planning to propose to the Centre that police station jurisdictions be realigned with the capital's 13 reconstituted revenue districts to improve administrative coordination and public service delivery. The move follows the restructuring of Delhi's revenue administration last year and is aimed at ensuring greater consistency between policing and civil administration across the city.

According to government officials, Delhi currently has 11 police districts, while the revenue administration has been reorganised into 13 districts. The government is now considering a proposal to expand the number of police districts to match the revised revenue boundaries. Discussions on the proposal are currently underway before it is formally sent to the Centre for consideration.

In December last year, the Delhi government notified the creation of 39 sub-divisions, or tehsils, and 13 revenue districts across the National Capital Territory. The reorganisation was intended to streamline administrative functioning and improve the delivery of government services by creating a more balanced and efficient revenue structure.

Meanwhile, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has amended the Fourteenth Schedule of the Delhi Municipal Corporation Act, 1957, to align the names of Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) zones with the newly reconstituted revenue districts. The amendment updates the official details of MCD wards and their corresponding zones to reflect the revised administrative boundaries.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the amendment would strengthen coordination between Delhi's Revenue Department and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. The alignment of administrative boundaries is expected to improve governance, simplify coordination among departments and enhance the efficiency of civic and revenue-related services across the capital.

If approved by the Centre, the proposed expansion and realignment of police districts would bring policing boundaries in line with the revised revenue districts, creating a more integrated administrative framework. Officials believe the move could help improve law enforcement coordination, public administration and the overall delivery of government services in Delhi.
