Delhi Police Achieve Over 95% Murder Case Clearance in 2025
Delhi Police solved 95.32% of 491 murders in 2025 using tech and forensics.
Delhi Police solved more than 95 per cent of all murder cases registered in the national capital in 2025, underscoring the force’s growing reliance on technology, forensic science, and data-driven investigations. According to official data shared on Wednesday, police cracked 95.32 per cent of the 491 murder cases recorded during the year.
Several of these crimes initially appeared to be “perfect murders”, investigators said. Among the most complex cases were the death of a UPSC aspirant in what was first believed to be a cylinder explosion inside his flat, the killing of a dairy owner who was shot 69 times, and the murder of a woman who was bludgeoned to death inside her home. Each case posed significant challenges due to misleading evidence or the apparent absence of immediate leads.
Senior police officials said advances in forensic analysis, improved crime scene management, and the extensive use of digital tools played a crucial role in solving these cases. Call detail records, CCTV footage, mobile location tracking, and forensic reconstruction helped investigators piece together timelines and identify suspects who might otherwise have gone undetected.

Police also credited better coordination between investigation teams and forensic experts for the high detection rate. Officials said crime scenes are now examined with greater precision, ensuring that even minor clues are preserved and analysed. This approach has reduced dependence on confessions and increased the quality of evidence presented in court.
According to the police, the success rate reflects sustained investments in training and modernisation over recent years. Officers have been increasingly trained to handle complex cases involving staged accidents or attempts to destroy evidence, which are often designed to mislead investigators.
Delhi Police said the figures demonstrate that the concept of a “perfect murder” is largely a myth in the face of modern investigative techniques. Officials added that they aim to further improve detection rates while strengthening preventive policing to reduce violent crime in the city.
