Delhi-NCR Weather: Rain Forecast Till August 16 After Pleasant Morning

Delhi-NCR residents woke up to pleasant weather on Tuesday, with cloudy skies and light winds bringing relief across the region. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall in the national capital and neighbouring areas until August 16, with the ongoing monsoon spell expected to keep temperatures relatively comfortable.

The weather system affecting Delhi is part of a broader active monsoon phase across India. The IMD has forecast widespread rainfall in several parts of the country, with heavy to very heavy showers likely over areas of northwest, central, eastern, northeastern and western India in the coming days. Thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds may also affect several states.

Delhi has already experienced significant rainfall during the current monsoon season. The Safdarjung observatory recorded 98.7 mm of rain in the 24 hours ending at 8:30 am on Saturday, making it the capital’s wettest August day in two years. The city had last recorded a higher August rainfall total on August 1, 2024, when 107.6 mm was measured.

The continuing rain has also contributed to improved air quality in the national capital region. Delhi-NCR has recorded its 10th consecutive day of satisfactory air quality, with intermittent rainfall and cloudy conditions helping limit the accumulation of pollutants. Residents, however, may continue to experience disruptions from waterlogging and reduced visibility during heavier showers.

The active monsoon conditions are being influenced by multiple weather systems over northern and central India. The monsoon trough remains south of its normal position, while a low-pressure area over north Madhya Pradesh and adjoining regions is influencing rainfall activity across central and northwest India.

With these systems continuing to remain active, Delhi-NCR is likely to experience further rainfall through August 16. Residents should remain alert to changes in weather conditions, particularly during periods of thunderstorms, lightning and stronger winds, as the IMD continues to monitor the evolving monsoon pattern.
