Delhi-NCR Sees Rain, Dust Storm; Additional Showers Forecast Today
Delhi-NCR gets rain, dust storm; more showers forecast today.
Parts of Delhi-NCR woke up to light rain and a dust storm on Wednesday morning, bringing temporary relief from soaring temperatures even as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast more showers and gusty winds later in the day.
According to weather officials, the early morning spell was accompanied by strong winds and lightning in several areas, with an “orange alert” issued for thunderstorms across the region. Wind speeds of up to 40–50 kmph were recorded in parts of the national capital, reducing visibility and briefly disrupting traffic movement during peak hours.
The IMD has indicated that intermittent rain and thunderstorm activity may continue through the day, driven by western disturbances and localised atmospheric instability. These systems often bring short but intense weather changes, including dust storms followed by light to moderate rainfall in north India during the pre-monsoon period.

While the rainfall has helped bring down temperatures marginally, officials cautioned that the relief may be short-lived. Forecasts suggest that heat conditions are likely to return in the coming days, with daytime temperatures expected to climb back toward peak summer levels across the region.
Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious during periods of strong winds and lightning, particularly in open areas. Commuters have also been urged to check weather updates before travel, as sudden changes in conditions can impact road and air traffic.
The shifting weather pattern highlights the transitional phase between spring and peak summer in north India, when dust storms and brief rain spells are common. Experts note that such fluctuations, while offering momentary respite, also underscore the broader challenges of heatwaves and deteriorating air quality in the region.
