Delhi CM Vows Housing for All

CM pledges homes first, jhuggi demolitions ruled out.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Friday declared that no slum dwelling in the city would be demolished unless its residents are first provided with permanent housing. Speaking at the "Growth Bhi, Green Bhi" seminar on sustainable development in the National Capital Territory, she emphasized a development vision that ensures dignity and equity for all citizens.

“If needed, we’ll amend every outdated policy. No jhuggi will be broken until every resident has a proper house,” Gupta said, adding that her ministers are working tirelessly—up to 18 hours a day—to put Delhi back on the fast track of progress.

She stressed the importance of holistic development, including better schools, hospitals, roads, solar infrastructure, rainwater harvesting, and a cleaner Yamuna.

Quoting the Prime Minister, Gupta said, “PM ne bola hai – Delhi aage badhegi toh desh aage badhega,” underscoring her commitment to making the capital a national leader once again.

Gupta also took aim at outdated labor laws, especially a 1954 provision that restricted women from working night shifts. “It’s a woman’s choice, not the government’s mandate,” she said, announcing its repeal to promote gender equality in employment.

Gupta’s message was clear: Delhi’s forgotten years are over, and a new era of inclusive, rapid development has begun.
