Delhi CM Meets PM Modi to Discuss Development, Pollution Mitigation, and Upcoming Budget
PM Modi meets Delhi CM to discuss infrastructure, pollution, and development.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday met Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to discuss the national capital’s development priorities, including infrastructure strengthening, pollution mitigation, and initiatives aimed at fulfilling citizens’ aspirations. The meeting took place ahead of the Delhi Budget 2025-26, scheduled for presentation in the Assembly on March 24.
CM Gupta, who also heads Delhi’s Finance Department, said the discussions were “inspiring” and focused on the city’s all-round progress. In a social media post, she highlighted the Prime Minister’s guidance, noting that his leadership provides “fresh energy and inspiration” to Delhi’s administration.
Key topics included women-centric proposals, major infrastructure projects, and strategies to improve air quality and traffic flow. Notably, the Delhi government recently approved the payment of its pending share of Rs 3,700 crore for land acquisition related to the Eastern and Western Peripheral Expressways. These expressways are intended to divert heavy, non-destined traffic away from Delhi, easing congestion and reducing pollution levels.

Chief Minister Gupta criticised the previous government, alleging that political differences with the Centre had delayed payments and slowed the project, ultimately affecting Delhi residents. The Cabinet has now approved a phased plan to clear the outstanding amount, with Rs 500 crore to be released in the 2025-26 financial year and the remaining Rs 3,203.33 crore to be paid in instalments, depending on budgetary provisions.
The meeting underlined the Delhi government’s commitment to working closely with the Centre to ensure smoother implementation of infrastructure projects and deliver tangible benefits for the city’s residents. Officials said the dialogue also reinforced coordination on pollution control measures, women’s welfare initiatives, and long-term urban planning.
The discussions come at a crucial time as Delhi prepares for the upcoming budget, aiming to balance developmental needs with environmental sustainability and citizen-focused governance.
