Delhi Bolsters Dengue Fight with Sentinel Hospitals

Three Facilities Equipped to Tackle Vector-Borne Surge

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has designated Hindu Rao Hospital, Swami Dayanand Hospital, and Kasturba Hospital as sentinel surveillance centers to combat the seasonal rise in dengue, malaria, and chikungunya cases, officials announced Sunday.

Standing committee chairperson Satya Sharma revealed that 70 beds at Hindu Rao, 22 at Swami Dayanand, and 75 at Kasturba Hospital have been reserved for patients. “These hospitals are equipped with dedicated resources, including medicines, IV fluids, and platelets, with round-the-clock medical staff to ensure timely care,” Sharma said. Additional beds and personnel will be allocated if dengue cases spike.

The MCD has also intensified efforts to curb cholera outbreaks in areas with contaminated drinking water, distributing liquid chlorine and Oral Rehydration Solution (ORS) packets to prevent infections and dehydration.

Sharma urged residents to maintain cleanliness, eliminate stagnant water, and seek immediate medical help for symptoms of vector-borne diseases. “Public cooperation is crucial to controlling these outbreaks,” she emphasized.

The MCD’s proactive measures aim to strengthen Delhi’s response to seasonal health threats, ensuring robust medical infrastructure and community awareness to mitigate risks.
