Delhi 10/11 Blast Update: CM Rekha Gupta Announces ₹10 Lakh Relief for Victims’ Families

CM Rekha Gupta announces ₹10 lakh relief for Red Fort blast victims’ families.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday called the Red Fort car blast a tragedy that has “shaken the entire city,” as she announced ex gratia relief for the victims’ families. The explosion, which took place on Monday evening near the Red Fort Metro Station, claimed at least 13 lives and left several others injured. The cause of the explosion remains under investigation, with officials probing every possible angle.

In a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), CM Gupta extended condolences to those affected by the incident and declared financial aid of ₹10 lakh for the families of those killed, ₹5 lakh for individuals permanently disabled, and ₹2 lakh for those seriously injured. She emphasized that the Delhi government would take full responsibility for the medical care and rehabilitation of the injured. “Peace and security in Delhi are our utmost priorities, and the administration is monitoring the situation closely,” her post added.

The blast occurred when a Hyundai i20 vehicle suddenly exploded at a red light near one of the gates of the Red Fort, also close to the Lal Quila Metro Station. The impact of the explosion ignited nearby vehicles, sending shockwaves through the crowded area and leaving the site engulfed in flames and debris. Emergency services rushed to the spot within minutes as bystanders and local shopkeepers shared distressing visuals from the scene.

Following initial assessments by Delhi Police, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has handed over the investigation to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). Forensic teams are currently examining evidence collected from the site, including vehicle fragments, residues, and CCTV footage, to determine whether the explosion was accidental, mechanical, or intentional. Authorities have also imposed additional security measures at key landmarks across the capital.

CM Gupta assured residents that the government remains vigilant and that all agencies are coordinating to maintain calm and safety in the city. “The entire Delhi government stands firmly with affected families in this difficult hour. We will not rest until the truth behind this incident is revealed,” she stated.
