Davangere South, Bagalkote Assembly Bypolls To Be Held On April 9

The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Sunday announced that by-elections for the vacant assembly constituencies of Davangere South and Bagalkote in Karnataka will be held on April 9, with the counting of votes scheduled for May 4.

The poll schedule was released in New Delhi by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. According to the Election Commission, the bypolls will be conducted alongside other election processes in the country, with administrative preparations already underway to ensure smooth polling in both constituencies.

The by-elections became necessary following the deaths of two sitting legislators from the Indian National Congress, which resulted in vacancies in the respective assembly seats. Veteran Congress leader Shamanur Shivashankarappa represented the Davangere South constituency, while H. Y. Meti served as the MLA from the Bagalkote assembly segment.

Both constituencies are considered politically significant in their respective regions, and the upcoming bypolls are expected to draw considerable attention from major political parties. Campaigning is likely to intensify in the coming weeks as parties select candidates and reach out to voters ahead of polling day.

Election officials said arrangements will be made to deploy polling personnel, electronic voting machines and security forces to ensure the voting process is conducted peacefully and transparently. Voter awareness campaigns are also expected to be carried out to encourage participation in the by-elections.

The results of the bypolls, to be declared on May 4 along with other election counts scheduled around the country, will determine who represents the two constituencies in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly for the remainder of the current term.
