Cyclone Ditwah Triggers Heavy Rain Alert Across Andhra Pradesh – Extremely Heavy Falls Expected Soon

Cyclone Ditwah brings heavy rain and strong winds to Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu coasts.

Cyclone Ditwah, positioned over the southwest Bay of Bengal at 11.4°N, 80.6°E near north Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts, has moved northwards and is set to enhance rainfall across Andhra Pradesh districts. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts the system will track parallel to the Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coastline, 30-70 km offshore, bringing squally winds and heavy precipitation without direct landfall. Named by Yemen after Detwah Lagoon on Socotra Island, the cyclone follows recent systems like Senyar.

North Coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP) and Yanam face light to moderate rain with thunderstorms and winds of 35-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph for two days, easing to isolated thundershowers on Tuesday. South Coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP) expects heavy to very heavy rain today, with extremely heavy falls at one or two spots, followed by isolated heavy rain Monday and light-moderate Tuesday. Rayalaseema anticipates widespread light-moderate rain Monday with heavy to very heavy at isolated places, thunderstorms, and lighter showers Tuesday.

Stronger winds of 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph threaten SCAP and Rayalaseema parts. Fishermen receive warnings to avoid affected sea areas. The system builds on prior red/orange alerts for Tamil Nadu coasts, where heavy-to-extremely heavy rain (over 204 mm) disrupted operations through November 30.
