Crime is Now Borderless! Amit Shah's Call for Heightened Forensic Science
Forensic Science: A Cornerstone in Modern Justice, Says Amit Shah
Union Home Minister Amit Shah emphasized the critical role of forensic science in today’s borderless crime landscape during his address at the All India Forensic Science Summit 2025.
With criminals leveraging technology to transcend state and national boundaries, Shah underscored that forensic science has become indispensable to India’s criminal justice system. Under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, the government has integrated forensics to ensure timely, scientific, and people-centric justice.
Shah highlighted that forensic science not only aids in punishing the guilty but also protects the innocent, aligning with Modi’s vision to modernize the justice system. “Crime is no longer confined to districts or countries; it’s borderless,” he said, stressing the need for forensic expertise to boost conviction rates and deliver fair outcomes. The Summit, he noted, fosters collaboration among experts to shape future strategies and policies.

The minister traced the roots of this transformation to Modi’s initiatives, including the establishment of the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) in Gujarat in 2009 and its expansion in 2020.
With seven campuses operational and nine more planned within six months, NFSU has bolstered trained manpower and research. New criminal laws mandate forensic team visits for cases with punishments of seven years or more, a proactive step to strengthen investigations.
On Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s birth anniversary, Shah paid tribute, noting that Babasaheb’s Constitution remains a timeless guide for justice and equality. The government’s focus, Shah reiterated, is to ensure justice is swift, satisfying, and equitable for all.
