Conrad Sangma Highlights Meghalaya Govt's Focus On Balanced District Development

Sangma highlights inclusive development plans across Meghalaya.

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma on Thursday reiterated that the state government is committed to ensuring balanced and equitable development across all districts through targeted support for locally identified priorities. Speaking after distributing sanction letters under the Chief Minister’s Special Development Fund (CMSDF) at his official residence in Shillong, Sangma said the initiative has become an important mechanism for addressing immediate developmental needs of communities.

The Chief Minister said the CMSDF allows the government to provide timely financial assistance for projects that directly improve people’s quality of life while complementing larger development programmes. He highlighted that community-focused initiatives play an important role in strengthening grassroots institutions and ensuring better access to essential services across Meghalaya.

Sangma urged beneficiaries and implementing agencies to complete the sanctioned projects efficiently and within the given timelines so that communities receive maximum benefits. He said effective implementation is crucial for ensuring that development funds translate into meaningful improvements for people at the local level.

The financial assistance under the CMSDF has been extended to a range of community institutions, educational establishments, sports organisations and local bodies across the state. The supported projects include construction of school buildings and additional classrooms, community halls, office facilities for local organisations, sanitation infrastructure, sports facilities, drinking water arrangements, ambulance support, sports equipment and educational resources.

Among the beneficiaries were several community and educational organisations, including Synjuk Rangbah Shnong Dorbar Raid Mathan, Chibak Agalgittim Sports & Cultural Club, Laitnongrim Upper Primary School, Church of God (M&A), Sohryngkham, Rangthong Cultural Club and Sports Association, Reach Shillong Ministries, Mizo Women Welfare Society, Umpling Presbyterian Secondary School and St. Anthony’s Higher Secondary School.

Reaffirming the government’s focus on regional development, Sangma said Meghalaya would continue supporting initiatives related to education, sports and community welfare. He added that such projects help create long-term public assets and strengthen local institutions. The programme was attended by beneficiaries, elected representatives, community leaders and government officials, with recipients expressing appreciation for the support provided to improve infrastructure and public services.
