Coaching Institute Firing Case: Patna Court Extends Khan Sir's Arrest Protection Till July 3

Court extends Khan Sir's arrest protection till July 3.

A court in Patna on Tuesday extended its interim protection from arrest for educator Faisal Khan, popularly known as Khan Sir, until July 3 in connection with a case arising from a firing incident at his coaching institute earlier this month. The court's order means that no coercive action can be taken against Khan until the next hearing, when the matter will be taken up for further arguments.

The case stems from an incident in early June, when unidentified miscreants allegedly vandalised Khan Sir's coaching institute in Patna. During the disturbance, security personnel deployed at the institute allegedly opened fire, leading to the registration of a First Information Report (FIR). Khan was subsequently named in the FIR along with others. On June 9, the court granted him protection from arrest, and that relief was later extended until June 30. Tuesday's order further prolongs the interim protection until July 3.

In addition to Khan's plea, the court is also scheduled to hear the bail applications of his two security guards, who remain in judicial custody in connection with the firing incident. Their bail pleas will also be taken up on July 3, alongside further proceedings in the case. The outcome of the hearing is expected to determine whether the guards receive relief and whether Khan's interim protection will continue.

During Tuesday's proceedings, the court sought details regarding the firearms carried by the two security guards. According to Satyam Jha, counsel representing Khan's rival Roshan Anand, the court directed the parties to furnish information relating to the arms licences of both guards before the next hearing. The submissions are expected to assist the court in examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged firing and the legality of the weapons used during the incident.

Speaking after the hearing, Jha said the matter had been listed for arguments on July 3 and confirmed that the order restraining the police from taking coercive action against Khan would remain in effect until then. "During the hearing on Tuesday, the court sought details of the arms licenses of both security guards of Khan. The matter has been listed for arguments on July 3, and the 'no coercive action' order against Khan will remain in force till then," he said.

The case has attracted significant public attention because of Khan Sir's popularity as an educator and online content creator. While investigators continue to examine the circumstances that led to the firing and the role of those involved, the court's latest order ensures that Khan will remain protected from arrest until the next hearing. The proceedings on July 3 are expected to be crucial in determining the future course of the investigation, the status of the interim relief granted to Khan, and the bail pleas of the two security guards currently lodged in judicial custody.
