CM Mohan Yadav Launches Mookerjee Remembrance Fortnight Events In Madhya Pradesh

Madhya Pradesh launches fortnight events honouring Syama Prasad Mookerjee.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has announced the beginning of a state-wide fortnight of commemorative programmes from Tuesday to July 6 to mark the birth and martyrdom anniversaries of Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Syama Prasad Mookerjee. The events will be organised across all municipal bodies in the state with a focus on public participation and civic engagement.

The announcement was made during a virtual address by Chief Minister Yadav from the Chief Minister’s residence on Monday, where he interacted with mayors and chairpersons of municipal bodies. He said the initiative is intended to honour Mookerjee’s contributions as a thinker, educationist, parliamentarian, and founder of the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, emphasising his role in shaping political and organisational thought in India.

Mookerjee, born on July 6, 1901, and who died on June 23, 1953, is remembered for his opposition to the special status granted to Jammu and Kashmir. The Chief Minister described his death as martyrdom and said his life and sacrifice continue to symbolise national unity and ideological conviction in public life.

During his address, Yadav instructed civic bodies to organise a range of activities during the fortnight, including public service campaigns and programmes aimed at connecting youth with Mookerjee’s ideas. He stressed the importance of promoting national integration and ideological awareness through structured outreach initiatives at the local level.

The Chief Minister also directed that educational and interactive events such as youth conferences, essay competitions, dialogue sessions, and public discussions be held across districts. He further suggested that suitable roads, parks, and public spaces be named after Syama Prasad Mookerjee, following due administrative approvals and procedures.

In addition, Yadav called for community welfare activities including tree plantation drives, cleanliness campaigns, blood donation camps, and health check-up programmes. The fortnight-long observance is expected to see wide participation from government departments, civic bodies, and citizens, aimed at highlighting Mookerjee’s legacy and encouraging civic responsibility among the younger generation.
