CM Fadnavis Speaks On Ketan Agarwal Murder, Urges Introspection On Youth Behaviour

CM raises concern over youth anger after murder case.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Friday said society must seriously introspect on why educated youth are increasingly developing what he described as a “vengeful and distorted mindset,” following the alleged murder of Ketan Agarwal in Pune. The case, which has drawn widespread attention, reportedly involves Agarwal’s fiancée Siya Goyal and her alleged lover, and has triggered debate on youth behaviour and rising violent tendencies.

Speaking to reporters during his visit to Pune, Fadnavis termed the incident “extremely shocking and incomprehensible.” He said the case goes beyond a routine criminal matter and reflects deeper social concerns. According to him, such incidents indicate the need for stronger societal mechanisms to prevent emotional instability and destructive thinking among young individuals from well-educated and well-off backgrounds.

The Chief Minister stressed that the matter should not be viewed only through a legal lens but also as a warning sign for society. He said there is a need to understand the root causes behind extreme acts of violence and ensure that young people are guided away from developing harmful emotional patterns that can lead to such tragedies.

During his visit, Ketan Agarwal’s father, Vishal Agarwal, also met Fadnavis and urged him to ensure that the case is transferred to a fast-track court. He demanded swift proceedings so that the truth is established quickly and the accused receive the strictest possible punishment under the law.

Meanwhile, legal proceedings in the case are also moving forward. Advocate Ashutosh Srivastava, representing accused Siya Goyal, confirmed that she has signed and submitted the vakalatnama, allowing him to represent her in court. He added that the required legal formalities are being completed and that she is cooperating with the police investigation.

Police officials in Pune Rural are now preparing to recreate the crime scene at Lohagad Fort as part of their ongoing investigation. The exercise is expected to help investigators reconstruct the sequence of events leading to Agarwal’s death and verify statements provided by those involved in the case, as the probe continues.
