CJP X Handle Withheld In India, New ‘Cockroach Is Back’ Account Created

CJP X account withheld in India, new backup account launched.

The X account of the satirical digital platform Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) was withheld in India on Thursday, shortly after which a new handle titled “Cockroach is Back” surfaced on the platform, escalating an already viral controversy surrounding the rapidly growing online movement.

The original CJP account, which had reportedly amassed over 200,000 followers on X, became inaccessible in India, prompting reactions from its founder Abhijeet Dipke, who claimed the action was anticipated following alleged attempts to hack the account. Dipke said the development amounted to a “self-goal by the government” and confirmed that the group would pursue legal remedies. Within hours, the newly created “Cockroach Is Back” account gained thousands of followers, reflecting sustained public interest in the platform.

CJP emerged only last week and quickly gained traction as a satire-driven digital initiative, using memes, graphics, and manifesto-style content to comment on political and social issues. Its posts frequently focus on concerns such as unemployment, education pressures, and examination paper leaks, packaged in a humorous and satirical format that resonated widely with younger social media users.

The movement gained momentum following controversy around remarks attributed to Chief Justice of India Surya Kant during a court observation, where the terms “parasites” and “cockroaches” were reportedly used in reference to certain individuals in the legal profession. The Chief Justice later clarified that his comments had been misquoted and were directed at individuals allegedly entering the profession with fake or invalid degrees. The incident inadvertently contributed to the viral rise of the “cockroach” themed satire accounts.

While the X handle was withheld in India, the organisation’s Instagram page remained active, reportedly attracting over 14 million followers. The group also highlighted its follower count in comparison to major political party accounts, further amplifying its visibility. Dipke alleged that attempts were also being made to compromise the group’s social media presence, including its Instagram account.

The episode has triggered wider debate over digital speech, satire, and content moderation, with several public figures and activists engaging with the movement. What began as a meme-based satire platform has now evolved into a broader online discussion on dissent, youth concerns, and the influence of social media-driven political commentary in India.
