Chirag Paswan Steps In Amid CBSE Evaluation Row, Assures Action On Errors
Government assures corrective steps amid CBSE evaluation system concerns.
Chirag Paswan on Tuesday strongly assured students and parents that the government will not allow any “tampering” with the future of children, amid growing concerns over the Central Board of Secondary Education’s (CBSE) evaluation system. His remarks come as the board faces increasing scrutiny over its newly implemented On-Screen Marking (OSM) process, with complaints emerging from across the country regarding technical glitches and evaluation inconsistencies. The issue has sparked widespread debate over the reliability of digital assessment systems used in school examinations.
Speaking to reporters, Paswan acknowledged that a “worrying situation” has developed, with a large number of students and parents expressing concerns about discrepancies in answer evaluation and result-related errors. He said the government considers the matter a high priority and is actively working to resolve the issues at the earliest. According to him, ensuring fairness and transparency in the examination process is essential, as it directly affects the academic future and mental well-being of lakhs of students across India. He added that the administration is closely monitoring developments and engaging with relevant departments to address the challenges.
The controversy centers around the CBSE’s On-Screen Marking (OSM) system, a digital evaluation mechanism introduced to streamline and modernise the assessment of answer scripts. However, reports have surfaced alleging mismatches between student responses and evaluated marks, along with technical failures in the post-result verification portal. These issues have led to confusion among students and parents, many of whom have raised concerns about delays in corrections and lack of clarity in the grievance redressal process. The situation has intensified public pressure on the education authorities to review the system.

Paswan stressed that the government is committed not only to resolving the current crisis but also to strengthening the examination framework to prevent similar issues in the future. He said every necessary step would be taken to improve the system’s accuracy, transparency, and reliability. According to him, reforms will focus on ensuring that technology-driven evaluation processes function without errors and maintain the trust of students. He reiterated that safeguarding the integrity of the education system is a top priority for the administration.
The developments have placed the Central Board of Secondary Education under significant pressure, with education experts calling for a detailed review of the OSM implementation and related digital infrastructure. Concerns have also been raised about the preparedness of schools and examination authorities in handling large-scale technological transitions in assessment systems. As the issue continues to unfold, stakeholders are urging prompt corrective measures to restore confidence among students and parents. The government, meanwhile, has indicated that it is working closely with education officials to ensure that evaluation processes are made more robust, transparent, and error-free in the coming academic cycles.
