Chhattisgarh Opens New Opportunities For Ex-Agniveers With 10% Government Job Quota

The Chhattisgarh Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, on Wednesday approved a 10% reservation policy for former Agniveer soldiers in select state government services. The move aims to provide career opportunities and rehabilitation support to personnel who complete their four-year tenure under the Agnipath scheme. The reservation will apply to direct recruitment for Class-III (Group C) posts, including constables in the police department, forest guards in the forest and climate change department, and guards (Praheri) in the jail department.

The government has approved the formulation of the "Chhattisgarh Civil Services Reservation Rules-2026 for Agniveer Soldiers" to regulate the implementation of the quota. According to officials, the benefit will be available to candidates who have completed four years of service in the Indian Armed Forces and possess a valid discharge certificate. The policy is expected to create a pathway for former Agniveers to transition into state services after completing their military tenure.

State officials said the initiative would help provide stable career prospects to returning servicemen while also bringing trained and disciplined personnel into departments that require physical fitness, operational skills and public service experience. The decision comes amid wider discussions across states regarding employment opportunities for Agniveers after the completion of their four-year service period. Several governments have announced measures aimed at supporting former Agnipath recruits by providing reservation or preference in various sectors. Chhattisgarh had earlier introduced provisions supporting Agniveers through its Industrial Development Policy released in 2024.

The policy included specific exemptions and support measures for categories such as Agniveer soldiers, women entrepreneurs, surrendered Maoists, members of the third gender, retired ex-servicemen and entrepreneurs from Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes. In another decision during Wednesday’s Cabinet meeting, the state government approved the formation of a Cabinet Sub-Committee to ensure timely availability and distribution of fertilisers during the Kharif and Rabi agricultural seasons. The committee will consult subject experts, government departments and institutional representatives to prepare recommendations on fertiliser supply management. It will advise the state government on improving distribution systems and addressing potential shortages during key farming periods.

The Chhattisgarh government said the decisions were aimed at strengthening employment opportunities and improving administrative efficiency. The Agniveer reservation policy will now be implemented after the relevant service rules are formally notified. The move is expected to benefit eligible former military personnel seeking government employment while helping state departments recruit candidates with defence training and experience. Further details regarding the application process and recruitment procedures are likely to be issued after the finalisation of the reservation rules.
