Chandrababu Naidu Writes To Andhra MPs Seeking Support For Women’s Reservation Bill

Naidu urges Andhra MPs to support Women’s Reservation Bill, calling it historic step for women’s empowerment.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has written to Members of Parliament from the state and leaders of various political parties, urging them to extend unanimous support to the proposed Women’s Reservation Bill, formally known as the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’, which seeks to provide 33 per cent reservation for women in legislative bodies starting from the 2029 elections.

In his communication, Naidu described the upcoming introduction of the Constitution Amendment Bill in Parliament on April 16 as a “historic milestone” in Indian democracy. He said the legislation represents a long-awaited step toward strengthening women’s representation in governance and contributing to broader national development.

The Chief Minister also appealed to leaders across party lines, including representatives of the Telugu Desam Party, Bharatiya Janata Party, YSR Congress Party, Congress, CPI, and CPI(M), to support the measure. He emphasized that the initiative aligns with the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and reflects a collective opportunity to advance women’s empowerment in the country.

Naidu, in his letter, said that increased participation of women in governance is essential for social progress, noting that women are already making significant contributions across sectors such as education, healthcare, science, technology, defence, commerce, and industry. He added that ensuring their representation in legislative institutions is a necessary extension of their growing role in national development.

He further stated that the passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill would mark a “historic and proud moment” for India, describing it as a transformative step that transcends political boundaries. According to him, the measure would strengthen democratic values and ensure greater inclusivity in decision-making processes at both state and national levels.

Naidu concluded his appeal by urging all political parties and MPs from Andhra Pradesh to support the legislation unanimously, calling it an opportunity to honour “Nari Shakti” and contribute to what he described as a defining moment in India’s democratic journey.
