Chandrababu Naidu Announces Labour Addas To Upskill Workers Across Andhra Pradesh
Andhra Pradesh CM announces labour addas to upgrade worker skills and expand welfare initiatives.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday announced a new set of worker welfare and skill development initiatives, including the establishment of labour “addas” across the state to support construction and informal sector workers. He said these centres would function as organised hubs where workers can gather, access job opportunities, and receive training to upgrade their skills. In the first phase, 15 such centres will be set up in major cities and towns to improve accessibility and employment linkages.
The Chief Minister made the announcement during an International Labour Day event in Krishna district, where he also presented Shramashakti awards to outstanding workers and employers. He said the initiative aims to formalise informal labour markets and ensure that workers are not only provided employment but also given opportunities for long-term skill enhancement. According to him, these labour addas will gradually evolve into structured skill development centres aligned with industry needs.
Alongside the labour addas, Naidu also announced major healthcare and social security expansions for workers. New Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) hospitals will be established in key industrial and urban hubs such as Achyutapuram, Guntur, Kurnool, Sri City, and Amaravati. He said these facilities are intended to improve access to affordable healthcare for workers and their families, especially those engaged in physically demanding jobs in construction and manufacturing sectors.

The Chief Minister detailed a series of welfare schemes aimed at financial and social security support. These include ₹25,000 assistance for construction workers’ marriages, ₹20,000 support for childbirth, ₹60,000 compensation in case of natural death, and ₹20,000 for funeral expenses. He also highlighted the functioning of labour courts for dispute resolution, stating that worker welfare is a core responsibility of the government rather than a financial burden.
Naidu further linked labour welfare with broader development goals, stating that the government is focused on enabling upward mobility for workers’ families, including entrepreneurship opportunities for their children. He said the state is also witnessing growing investments, including in data centres and industrial infrastructure, which he believes will generate additional employment opportunities. He credited ongoing reforms in education and governance for improving outcomes across sectors.
The Chief Minister also referred to infrastructure projects such as the Machilipatnam Port, stating that construction work is progressing after earlier delays. He said the project is expected to be completed by the end of the year. While acknowledging criticism from opposition parties, he maintained that the current government has been working over the past 22 months to rebuild systems and accelerate development in the state.
