Central University Convocation: VP Highlights Youth Role in Viksit Bharat@2047

Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Saturday addressed the 9th Convocation of the Central University of Himachal Pradesh, stressing the pivotal role of students and youth in realising the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047, aimed at transforming India into a developed nation by the centenary of independence. He outlined that achieving this vision would require economic growth, social inclusion, technological advancement, environmental sustainability, and ethical leadership.
Radhakrishnan emphasised that inclusive development is essential to ensure that no state or section of society is left behind. He highlighted initiatives such as Startup India and Make in India, which have opened new opportunities for young innovators, encouraging students to actively contribute to nation-building.
The Vice President urged greater collaboration between higher education institutions under the Central and State Governments. He noted that joint research, faculty exchanges, shared digital resources, and academic partnerships can create a larger learning ecosystem, contributing to globally competitive higher education that supports the vision of a developed India.

Appreciating the university’s efforts, Radhakrishnan commended its “Community Lab” initiative, which engages students and faculty with local communities to address rural realities. He also noted the university’s implementation of the National Education Policy 2020 and the introduction of subjects on Indian Knowledge Traditions, fostering a fresh educational perspective rooted in India’s intellectual heritage.
He further lauded the university’s work in translating literary works into Dogri and Hindi literature into Punjabi, reflecting a renewed emphasis on Swadeshi Chintan and Indian research methods. Stressing the importance of a drug-free environment, the Vice President urged students to say “No to Drugs” and dedicate their knowledge and skills to societal welfare, placing the nation first — “Rashtra Pratham.”
At the convocation, over 700 students were awarded degrees and medals, with women forming the majority of recipients. Among 32 gold medallists, 23 were young women, underscoring the increasing empowerment and contribution of women to India’s progress, Radhakrishnan noted.
