Central Tribal University Of Andhra Pradesh Has Special Responsibilities: President Murmu
President Murmu underscores key role of Central Tribal University of Andhra Pradesh in tribal empowerment.
President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday said that the Central Tribal University of Andhra Pradesh carries “special responsibilities” in advancing education, leadership, and inclusive development among tribal communities. She made the remarks while addressing the first convocation ceremony of the university in Vizianagaram.
The President said the institution is expected to emerge as a centre for building self-confidence, leadership abilities, and policy-making skills among tribal youth. She emphasized that universities established for social justice must work at the grassroots level to improve education, healthcare, skill development, livelihoods, and access to forest rights for tribal populations.
Murmu expressed confidence that the university would play a meaningful role in the holistic development of youth from marginalised and tribal communities, while also contributing to the overall growth of the surrounding region. She highlighted that such institutions must focus not only on academic learning but also on practical, community-based development outcomes.

She further stressed the importance of integrating traditional knowledge with modern education systems. According to her, universities should promote livelihoods through areas such as forest produce, handicrafts, millets, medicinal plants, eco-tourism, and local entrepreneurship, enabling sustainable economic opportunities for tribal communities.
The President also noted that students must adapt to rapidly changing global conditions by focusing on skill development and practical learning beyond textbooks. She encouraged them to remain connected to their cultural roots while contributing to national development, especially in a fast-evolving technological and economic environment.
Murmu added that the Central Tribal University’s initiatives, including its Science and Technology Hub, reflect its commitment to bridging modern science with tribal welfare and regional development. She said such efforts align with the vision of Viksit Bharat by promoting inclusive growth, environmental conservation, and community empowerment. The event was also attended by Andhra Pradesh Governor S. Abdul Nazeeb, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and state minister Nara Lokesh.
