CDS Gen Raja Subramani Visits Western Naval Command To Assess Operational Readiness
CDS reviews naval readiness and operational preparedness at Western Command.
The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General N. S. Raja Subramani, visited the Western Naval Command on Thursday to review operational preparedness and assess ongoing maritime security initiatives. The visit forms part of his early field engagements after assuming charge on May 31 as India’s third CDS. It is also his first visit to the command since taking office, underscoring its strategic importance.
During the visit, the CDS held detailed discussions with Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command, along with other senior officers. The deliberations focused on operational readiness, capability development, and emerging maritime security challenges. Senior officials briefed him on frontline preparedness and ongoing modernisation efforts within the command structure.
General Subramani also visited several formations and units under the Western Naval Command, gaining first-hand insights into their operational capabilities. The engagement provided an opportunity to review real-time readiness levels and assess the integration of advanced platforms and systems. The command, headquartered in Mumbai, is a key component of India’s maritime defence architecture.

Addressing naval personnel during the visit, the CDS commended their professionalism, discipline, and commitment to safeguarding national maritime interests. He emphasised the critical role of the Indian Navy in maintaining maritime security and ensuring a high level of operational alertness in an increasingly complex regional security environment.
He also reiterated the importance of strengthening jointness among the armed forces, highlighting the need for deeper integration between services. Stressing the government’s focus on Aatmanirbharta, he called for accelerated induction of indigenous defence technologies, along with innovation and collaboration to enhance capability development and modernisation across the forces.
The CDS further stated that future preparedness would depend on synergy, technological advancement, and coordinated planning among the services. His visit comes amid continued efforts by the armed forces to improve interoperability and maintain combat readiness across all operational theatres, including maritime domains.
